(2024 Edition with ETS Material) TC and SE Strategy - Session 4 Homework

This question is from (2024 Edition with ETS Material) TC and SE Strategy - Session 4 Homework, Problem 4.

I understand why the two ideas are contrasting each other (because of shifted remarkably). I interpreted the underlined part as the entire idea needs to be negative since the idea before that is positive. Looking at the underlined sentence, oppression and bankruptcy have a negative connotation so the blank should have a positive connotation to maintain the negative connotation of the idea and so my semantic guesses were acceptance or endorsement. Further, Greg said the answer is ‘rejection of’ but that would mean that we are rejecting the idea that a family is oppressive and causes bankruptcy which has a positive connotation as the previous idea and hence, both ideas would not contrast each other. Can somebody please tell me what I am missing? Am I doing a lot of story telling?
