Applying MATH strategy

Hi all, w.r.t. the above question part of Day 2 Verbal Lecture on SE & TC questions using MATH strategy, can someone please help with the following:

  1. Why can’t we use the option D- admire/ elusive. Since we have to set up contrast, I am considering more from idea perspective. Line 1 would imply that appreciation of objectivity in old puzzles, and this would be contrasted with second line which would imply that the appreciation is not as easy, and thus elusive.

Question - Why can’t we use overcame/ altruism for this question? Writing about experience of opium dominance and how it never killed him might help others who’d be sad about opium’s presence in their lives. In that case, publishing it out in open would be an altruistic cause.

Thanks!

Not quite, this means the ISSUE is elusive, not the appreciation. “issue is appreciated” and “issue is elusive” is not a contrast really.

The issue is the word “might”, that’s storytelling. “overcame” is okay for Blank 1 though.
