Can a link to the slides used in a pre-recorded lecture be provided alongside that lecture video? It would be quite helpful if one just wants to skim over the material during revision.
Nope.
Okay, but could you perhaps give me a reason?
To me, It’s too much to ask for from Greg!
I was under the impression that you were speaking on Greg’s behalf, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. I understand you looking out for Greg, but I personally don’t think it’ll be any extra work for him since he makes the slides for class anyway, and I’m not asking for any extra annotations to be added to them. I just want to be able to go over the examples discussed, and the title slides which name the different strategies so as to get a reminder of the same.
It’s not about the uploading stuffs on gregmat website, what I meant is that it’s a bit of stretch to ask for the powerpoint presentation files that he solely prepares for the lectures. I mean the materials or homework or link or anything apropos to the lectures for the students are almost always shared with the students. But, asking for his slides sounds foolish to me. Then again, hey, who am I to say this, you can request for the slides on his beer sessions.
I think that’s just a difference in opinion. You clearly don’t see any utility in having the slides, whereas I do. Providing students with lecture slides is very routine in academia. Slides may be used by people taking a session for the first time just to keep pace with what is happening in class - for example, during a lecture on passage comprehension skills, instead of waiting for the the instructor to turn back the slides to review the passage when discussing an example, one could just have the passage open alongside. One could also download the lecture slides on their tablet and be able to annotate them alongside the lecture, same as Greg does. Finally, they can also be used for revision, but I already mentioned this earlier.
While I see that you don’t see any reason why YOU would need it, if someone else does, and if it takes no effort/minimal effort, I don’t see any reason to object to it.
I don’t think at present the slides are made with the goal of being an additional supplementary material to go along the video lectures but maybe in the future it will be a possibility but as of now I think you just to relay on lectures and your own notes.
I didn’t say slides are not useful. Lol!
I’m not asking for any changes to be made to the slides themselves at all, but fair enough. Hope you guys consider it in future.
I never claimed that you said the slides weren’t useful - it was the idea of being able to download them. Let’s just agree to disagree on that one.
Hello, I mean since they’re not available at this moment, whatever the reason behind it maybe, can’t you just take a screenshot? That should solve your problem. Sometimes when I see something captivating or there’s a cool new trick, I take one and put it in my notes or my Anki.
I am confident you don’t even need all of the slides, just the ones that seems to blow your mind or gives you an “aha!” moment. I hope this solves your problem!
@Maverick Yes, I can definitely take screenshots and find other ways to work around it. Honestly, the reason why I even suggest this is because every online course I’ve ever taken, be it on Edx, MIT OpenCourseWare, Stanford Online or Coursera, the availability of lecture slides has been a staple and I’ve definitely gotten used to the convenience.
I’m completely in agreement with you in that it is not a necessity, but it does make life easier and even actively helps people learn. I’m also in no way asking for GregMAT to promise me to add the feature either - it is just a suggestion after all, and KremlinOfficial’s statement that they will think about it is good enough for me.
If I sound high strung, it’s because I’m just put off by how the suggestion was initially received in this thread, with user ehza continuously speaking on behalf of GregMAT (despite not belonging to the organization as far as I can tell), and then shooting down my suggestion with inane arguments. Greg can tell me himself if “it’s too much to ask” or if he prepares them “solely” for the lectures, like ehza seems to think it is.
Downloadable slides at worst get ignored by most people, at best prove useful for most people, but regardless the feature hurts nobody’s experience.
The suggestion is definitely appropriate and reasonable, nothing wrong with the OP sharing their suggestion here. It is not too much to ask from Greg either if the below issue wasn’t there.
That being said I do not expect this to be feasible, mainly because of the reason why videos are non-downloadable on this platform. That is, security. If downloadable slides are provided, then they will be shared on the internet, and that is a problem since the main revenue model of GregMAT is from the $5 subscription fee. It may sound small, but there’s a reason why Greg would rather pay thousands of dollars for Vimeo rather than use YouTube for instance.
ehza is not speaking on GregMAT’s behalf, want to make that clear.
Thanks a lot for the definitive answer. I totally understand the need for restricting downloadable resources to avoid content piracy and theft of intellectual property.
