BIG BOOK: Test 4 Section 2

Answer key says q+r > s is the correct answer (answer choice A). I answered that there is not enough information to determine (Answer choice D). Why am I wrong?

My reasoning:

  • Despite m+v+q+r+s+t = 360 → (q+r) + q + v + s = 310, we do not know what q, v, or s equals because they do not specify that these are straight lines, therefore we cannot assume vertical angles.
  • Therefore q+r can be super small and s be bigger, or vice versa.
  • If they the problem said that these are straight lines, using vertical angles we know that q = 50, s = 80, and r = 50 therefore q+r > s. But it doesn’t say that they’re straight lines.

Why would they not be straight lines?
