Big book, Test 5, Section 4 Q4

I marked the answer E but the book said the answer is A. My concern is: doesn’t Freud reconstructing childhood processes from adult memory more of a direct process. Him inferring from adult anticipation isn’t a more of a indirect approach?

Please let me know what am missing.

According to me, well the first blank definitely goes better with inferred. But its the second blank which will decide the answer. anticipation means to expect something to happen … generally you anticipate something in future , so that does not make sense . Hence the option A, as in E anticipation will not satisfy second blank - so for me it was
A) somewhat satisfies the blank, definitely satisfies the blank
VS
E) satisfies the blank, definitely does not satisfy the blank
