Bombed my 1st GRE

Hi there. Yesterday I took my first GRE and bombed the Quant section (144Q). I’m aiming for a 160. I’ve been using Prepswift to prepare for the past 2 months and it seems that I fell into the classic trap of working hard but not smart.

I’m hoping to make the second window of MBA deadlines in early January, so I have another 1-1.5 months to study to retake the exam. I’ve taken a month off work to do so. Should I follow the 1 month study plan or the I’m Overwhelmed plan? I’m rewatching all the Getting Started Videos at the moment to better understand where I went wrong. Additionally, I’ve drafted this rough study plan.

Any advice would be highly appreciated!

PRACTICE

  1. Overwhelmed approach or 1-month?
    a) Strong Quant foundation needed
  2. Do Fundamentals Quizzes
  3. Redo every PS Quant Tickbox Quiz
    1. Identify weaknesses
    1. Relearn topic and complete Quant Flashcards and the Mountain - they’re NOT optional
    1. Solve Gregmat exercises related to that topic to cement understanding - search by tag
  1. Doing Homework exercises in Study plans
  2. Doing exercises in 5lb GRE book
  3. Do Mock Tests every other day

THEORY

  1. Watch every strategy video

  1. Definitely the Overwhelmed plan considering the timeframe
  2. Mock every other day - No, too many.

I’d recommend not doing any practice tests until you’ve gone a significant way through solidifying your foundation, or after you’ve achieved 85% on the foundational quizzes

After which a practice test each weekend

Close to your test, you may consider doing max two in one week but it’s not necessary to do so

Aim to gain as much as you can from each practice test Vs doing as many practice tests as possible
