Can someone please explain why the answer isn’t D? The question doesn’t specify (a,b) is restricted to quadrant I. Therefore, for example, if (a,b) is in quadrant II, a+b would not equal c+d.

By convention, you usually only consider the first quadrant when you make a statement like that.

Nonetheless, your point could potentially be a valid concern and perhaps they could’ve mentioned positive x axis.
