Doubt: GRE Quant Flashcards Group 7 Quiz

Here Y=X^3 -X can be written as Y= X(X+1)(X-1)
=> X = 0,1,-1
My doubt is is X = 0 an X intercept?
My understanding was X = -1, 1 are the two x intercepts.
Please help me understand how X = 0 can be considered an X intercept.

What’s the definition of an x-intercept?

The point where a line touches X- Axis? usually Y intercept is calculated when X=0 :sweat_smile:. If a line passes through origin do we still say it has an X intercept. Was not sure about this.

Sure, does the graph touch the x axis at x = 0?

Got it, if X=0 and Y=0, which is true in this case, it is at the origin which is an x intercept
.
