Doubt in Gregmat Full Pratice test # 3

Hi!
Doubt in this RC question-

Here, I wanted to understand why the last answer has been marked - I did not mark this when I attempted this question, the reason is-

  • The first line of the passage says the main goal is creating a system at the same level “or exceeding human capability”- therefore used this as evidence
  • In the answer choice, we don’t have something explicitly stating that the ONLY goal of AI is systems smarted than human, and not at the same level.

Can you help me understand what I’m missing here? Should I have interpreted the word “primary goal” to mean that the ans. choice is saying ONLY smarter than human is valid, and not at the same level?

The first line of the passage says the main goal is creating a system at the same level “or exceeding human capability”- therefore used this as evidence

Is that actually the main goal? Or is the main goal “to engineer more capable AI systems, ultimately creating a single system that can perform any task that requires intelligence at the same level as or exceeding the proficiency level of a human”

The difference between your interpretation and the text as written is that the intelligence is a byproduct of the main goal, which is the tasks. The types of tasks include both things humans can do and things beyond our capabilities. Additionally, the goal is to have a “single system” that can handle everything we can do and everything we cannot. Think of a calculator: it must be able to do the same arithmetic that a human can, but it can also handle things no human can reasonably do (like factor a 50-digit number in seconds). To achieve its goal, it has to match and then surpass human ability. The same is true of this hypothetical AI, but on a much larger scale.

Understood the distinction between goal, and underlying requirement now- thank you Alina, super helpful!
