This is a support sentence because of the comma, but I thought it will be contrast because of the word “without”. How do we know which words to exactly look out for and match using the math strategy?
You could use “without” as the linking word and it will contrast the 2 ideas.
Idea 1 - nature of tempo chosen
Idea 2 - relation to what had gone before
Since this is a contrast, you could say that nature of tempo chosen has NO relation to what had gone before and hence random.
I hope this makes sense
Hi Joan! Thank you so much for your response.
Greg mentioned that this is a support sentence and not contrast. I also thought of it as contrast though yeah, the blank that we’re filling in has a different connotation than the second idea. This is why I was a bit confused about looking out for words/punctuation denoting support and contrast.
