Doubt in TC from BB

Greg went with POE and chose option B
Can anyone explain why option D is incorrect?

I think the best strategy here is to look at the second blank. The second blank is supported by "impending, " which might suggest something not definite. Regret does not make sense, so A can go, inhibition means withdrawn, without inhibition means fully so B works. There is nothing that suggests bitterness or sweetness regarding James’ writing, so without rancor doesn’t make sense, C is gone. Without eloquence suggests that James is not eloquent which is not really suggested anywhere. So the only one that fits is

But couldn’t ‘without eloquence’ also mean that he didn’t care about writing properly for his dying father?
That also suits the sentence right?

I think since apprehension is the first blank. If he lacked the anxiety of death, wouldn’t that mean he spoke clearly? He wasn’t stuttering/unsure about what he spoke. If he is anxious, then he would be less eloquent, if he isn’t anxious about death, he would have no problem speaking to his father about death.

I interpreted ‘apprehension’ as ‘fear’
So the first part translates to William James not being fearful of death, which would mean that he didn’t care about it I guess?
I don’t know if I’m in storytelling mode :stuck_out_tongue:

Nah bro I think it’s good to look at TC questions from different perspectives. The more time you spend with it the more you understand it? So if he lacked fear of death, he would be eloquent when talking about it right? If he isn’t afraid he will be eloquent, if he is afraid that might cause stuttering and lead him to be not eloquent. I think you missed the “lacked” part in the first blank, lacked is negative. No fear = more eloquent. Hope it helps.

Hmm ya makes sense.
Thanks a lot!!
