Extreme strategy in this particular question

Similar to one of our prior GRE questions where there was:
I knew you were young and impressionable, but i was surprised at how ‘naivete’ you were.

In this particular question too, i got the same thing is happening. My question is why particularly?

Is it because they are contrasting norm ( prepared for it) with the unprepared for? I initially chose ‘mildness’ as the option but i didn’t know meaning of blizzard. Is ‘mildness’ wrong here because of the word ‘Blizzard’? I mean similar to the above question where Blizzard is strong version of formidable winters, and are we kind of supporting the nature of Blizzard?
Thankyou for your response.
@vince or anyone who can help please.

Mildness creates support, not contrast. We need a contrast due to “even though”.

Would you say recognizing that this is as an extreme question actually hinges on knowledge of the word “blizzard”?
