Got similar score on PP2 as initial exam. Delay retake in 2 weeks?

I took the GRE on October 4th and got 165V/153Q. I need at least 157Q so I decided to retake on the 11th of Nov. I just took PP2 and got 163V/153Q. The verbal drop was down to one or two stupid mistakes, so I’m sure I can replicate 165 next time. However, with the Quant, what happened was I’m OK at the medium section, much better than before (thanks to gregmat of course!). However I did well enough to get bumped up to the ‘Hard’ section for Quant #2, which is totally over my head. I got 16/20 correct on section 1, but only 8/20 on section 2.

Obviously, it’s impossible for anyone here to know for certain if I can bump my Q score by 4 points in 2 weeks. But I’m wondering how much stock I should put in this test result. Could it be an outlier? Would adding an extra week or two to my studying even make that much of a difference? Should I take another practice test in a week to reassess or will that not tell me much?

Thanks for the input, and if Greg’s reading this thank you so much for your content. Going into this I had a terrible grasp of math- like I withdrew from 3 different Calc I classes in my undergrad terrible. I’m not great now either but I have a much better understanding of some fundamentals than I ever thought possible!

How good are you at tanking bad results?

Sorry, I’m not sure exactly what you mean. How good I am at ‘tanking’ bad results? Do you mean to ask how good I am at intentionally doing poorly on a certain section? Or did you mean to write how good am I at taking bad results? I must be having a brain fart as I can’t understand what your question is. Thanks for the clarification!

This(Sorry, I should have been more specific) because some people if they score low on their practice test closer to their exam then that just breaks their confidence and hurts their score tremendously. But if you’re not of that type then you can fit a PowerPrepPlus($40 each) a week before your exam and it will give you the closest estimation on how you’ll perform on the real one.
