How can I tell if I am ready for the GRE exam?
Feel free to choose one of the study plans (1-month, 2-month, or “I’m Overwhelmed”) and come up with a target score you need for any program you apply to.
As you follow the plan, I would suggest taking a PowerPrep test through ETS. I believe there is a free Timed one that you could start with. See how you perform if you mimic test conditions. This should give you a baseline. If you are progressing and close to your ideal score, then I would say to put in a little more effort and time to iron out any weaknesses. You will know when you are consistently getting questions correct in a timed format and feel more and more confident.
I personally had been practicing for about 1.5 months and took the GRE because I had gone through all the material and felt pretty confident about my foundations and timing. I got my first score but I decided to take it one more time 3 weeks later. Then, I got my target score. Everyone’s journey is different and you may wish to spend more or less time than I did.
I would suggest you use the practice tests and your performance on the GregMat and Official Guide material to inform your decision.
