Gre Support/Contrast Doubt

the could have means it is “not” right, so the performance was not a disaster which is a positive thing and the blank should have negative right?

Hi,
You seem to have already drawn a contrast i.e.
hypothetical - disaster
in reality - not a disaster (something good)
So you don’t need to again draw a contrast with “in reality”
This can also be considered as a block of 4.

Using math strategy -
disaster( - ) * in reality( - ) = (something +ve)

no what im trying to say is not a disaster(+) * in reality(-)= something negative. In reality would be a contrast and could have been a disaster basically means it is not a disaster?

Yes, so how did you come to the conclusion that it is not a disaster? You simply did a contrast which was it “could” have been a disaster, but it “really” wasn’t one.
So you have already found out that, in reality, it wasn’t a disaster.

Using the math strategy, you should only consider the disaster for the first part and then contrast it with the “in reality”.

i came to the conclusion because if u will refer gregmats support/contrast list, you will see “could have” written in the words that indicate NO or NOT. Henceforth
