GRE untimed Quant: PROBLEM SOLVING - SHORTCUT

While the answer is correct, I solved the whole multiplication and wondering what the shortcut is here? I’m probably forgetting it.

Hey OP, I think the shortcut would be to realise that the tens and units digits can be determined by taking tens and units digit of the multiplicand i.e 7 and 8 with the and tens and unit digit of the multiplier which is 6 and 6. When you do that you’ll get, 78 x 66 = 5148. Now adding 4 and 8 will give you 12.
