GregMat - Sentence Equivalence Verbal

The botanical garden, once a mosaic of diverse species, now seems ________ after the introduction of non-native plants, which overshadow the native flora.

compromised

endangered

colluded

homogenized

tempered

Answer should be homogenized Can someone help me on this

Where is this question from?

This seems like a contrast “once a … is now …”. The good thing is diverse so the opposite of that would be homogenized.

Its SE so what is the second answer to this

Verbal practice

Are you sure? What does homogenized pair with if that was the case?

I would guess endangered. Endangered species means there’s too few of the native plants (diverse species). Which would also imply too many of the non-native plants, or most of them (homogeneous).

wouldn’t endangered go more with compromised?

Yeah, in fact are there any other pairs here?

I was thinking of

  1. compromised-endangered
  2. colluded-tempered

And because of the word “overshadowed” the answer should be compromised-endangered according to me.

I don’t see how colluded fits with tempered. I totally agree with compromised and endangered tho bc that was the first pair i found too!

I thought tempered would be a pair with homogenized because they both mean “mixed well”. I don’t think it works tho because it doesn’t mean “All the same” like homogenized does in this instance.

I actually think “overshadowed” is another hint towards the looks and composition of the garden vs the state or vitality. Although endangered does talk about the wellness of the garden it also talks about how little native species there are. Tbh I’m still not confident in any pair lol.

@user2667 what was the other answer? did the question come with an explanation?
