Guidance on strategy

Hi all,

Hope you are well. A GMATer shifting to the GRE.

Context: I’ve been studying for the GMAT for the past year, maxed out at 635 (so close yet so far). Note: I’ve taken the GMAT Classic (2x) and the GMAT Focus (3x).

GRE: After hearing about the GRE, I’ve decided to pivot. I took Practice Test 2 and scored Verbal (157) and Quant (161).

Keen to get your thoughts on how I should tackle the exam, with the intent to take the exam over the next month.

My initial thoughts are to do the GregMat - 1-month plan. However the focus would be on

  1. Quant - covering geometry, as this was taken out of the GMAT and I haven’t studied it
  2. Verbal - getting across all the Vocab and the new question types

Any thoughts and guidance would be much appreciated!

1 month plan sounds like a solid decision. There will be a bit of overlap but at the same time, it’s a different format. 1 month plan will get you acclimated to the structure and strategies specific to the GRE. Also, looks like you already know, but just be doubly aware that vocab is extremely important in this test, and all you need for it is basic rote memorization pretty much.

The sooner you start on vocab and keep at it, the better.
