Help in Identifying Main Idea

Hi,

I am working on my honing my reading skills using the Gregmat Main Idea practice, and I am confused in the main idea for one such passage. Attaching the screenshot of it where it shows that the first line is one which contains the main idea, but I think it is the last line. Can someone please help clarify this?

This is a really good question, and I totally get the confusion. The last line does feel like a strong summary, but the reason the first sentence is marked as the main idea is because it sets up the central claim that the rest of the paragraph supports.

Let’s break it down:

The first sentence gives a general claim: digital technology is changing people’s daily routines and communities.

Everything that follows just gives examples, expert opinions, or commentary that supports or adds context to that main idea.

The last sentence feels more like a conclusion or takeaway based on what’s already been said—but it depends on the points already made earlier (especially the first sentence) to make sense.

So in short: first sentence = main idea, last sentence = summary or reinforcement

The last line is just a conclusion drawn from the third last and the second last lines. They are still in the topic that technology has an impact. If somewhere, it would contrast this idea, only then the main idea would shift.
