that’s a tricky one because A works except for the word ‘appease’. appease means ‘mollify’ or even ‘win over,’ which suggests the critics are usually opposed to her (disparaging), rather than celebratory of her (extolling).
From a semantic perspective, one can’t simply remove the last act in its entirety and as a result have the critics praise it. I guess this isn’t the explanation you are looking for.
