Should I assume that the numeric ans must be an integer number?

No. And you may also need to recheck your work.

By this I mean if I get get a decimal as an ans should I recheck the calculation or should I be confident of that Ans.

One decimal point? Terminating? Perhaps. More than once? I would recheck.

Non terminating decimal point or terminating at 5-6 decimal points

Then I think something has gone wrong - ETS won’t have you wondering like that.
