Here although I chose A, which is clearly wrong because the skills required changing isn’t really what the “experts” are talking about, I eliminated D because “adequate number of workers” isn’t really mentioned anywhere in the passage. B and C can be eliminated because of employers and there are multiple reasons why E is wrong. I just don’t see how I can get to an inference like D. It seems to be way too far-fetched. Either that or I’ve hit my ceiling here. Any help would be appreciated. Also, what can I do in the future to be able to get these right?
Be careful - you might not see those exact words, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t mentioned using different words, or that it’s not a common-sense inference.
Experts say skill demands outstrip workers’ skills. Therefore, they think there is NOT an adequate number of workers with the skills needed.
Inferences are not leaps. They are nearly always unavoidable conclusions that don’t require critical thinking. Any RC question may make us infer - yes, even ones that say “according to the passage”. Just think about the choice and ask “must this be true given the part of the text I’m using?” If yes, it’s right.
Hey Vince, is there anyway I intentionally get better at these inferences?
find a bunch of them. analyze them. discuss the hard ones here.
