I have a question regarding the Mixture Trick. example one says a/b is 10/15 because 60 is closer to 50. example 2 says x/y is 11/3; however, 23 is closer to three, so i don’t understand the logic. Shouldn’t it be 3/11
In this case, you correctly stated that a/b = 10/15 because 60 is closer to 50, so we would need more B than A.
Similarly, x (which is 20) is closer to 23 than y (which is 34) is, so we need more of x than y. Thus, the proportion is x/y = 11/3, which implies x is larger.
I really want to say I understand this, but I don’t. I’m here from the exact same module on the I’m overwhelmed plan. Please if anyone has a more intuitive approach, I’m more than happy to hear it. I don’t speak fluent math. Thank you.
If you’re familiar with weighted averages, this is easy to solve that way, no trick needed
Thank you
