No of solution of an equation

Is it by default implied that, by the number of solutions ETS meant the number/count of real solutions? I do recall from my school teacher, "every quadratic equation has two solutions, though may they not be the real.
Yesterday in the Algebra Fundamental class, Greg has determined the answer on the basis of the number of real solutions, only. Any insights? @gregmat

Only real solution for GRE, can’t enter imaginary numbers yet !
