Normal Distribution Calculations video question

Hi! For this problem, Greg says in the video that 17% will be more than 45. However, I don’t understand why that is. 17% is half of 34%, and 45 is the median number between 40 and 50. Since they are both halves, why would 17% be more than 45?

Thank you!

45 is the midpoint between 40 and 50, but the area isn’t evenly split at 45 in a normal distribution. The curve is steeper and taller near the mean (50), so more of the area lies between 45 and 50 than between 40 and 45. That’s why 17% is more than 45. It’s not the dividing point for half the area between 40 and 50. Think in terms of area.

Ohh, okay. That makes a lot of sense. Thank you!
