Not Improving in Quant

Hi,

I have been studying for the GRE since February 2025. I originally planned on taking the test in April, but have postponed until May because I wasn’t feeling ready yet. Despite studying, I cannot seem to improve my quant score. So far my method has been:

  1. Going through all of the Prepswift videos and quizzes, including the tickbox quizzes. Not moving on from a topic until I fully understood it.
  2. I have written “cheat sheets” (think quant notecards) for each topic that I review at least once a week.
  3. Going through all of the quant progress quizzes, quant flashcards quizzes, and most of the fundamentals quizzes.

After feeling good about fundamentals, in the past couple of weeks I have started timed practice, which is where everything goes wrong. I have been doing this through:
4) Practicing the majority of the Manhattan big book questions, under time constraints. Doing 15 questions (easy, medium, and hard) in 21 minutes.
5) Doing the GRE mini exams and submitting by the time constraint.
6) Doing the easy and medium timed quant sections.

For all of these I review any questions I get wrong in a tracker for Manhattan, and add Gregmat ones to the superquiz, which I review twice weekly.

Despite all of this work my score has not improved (prepscores below). There must be something wrong in my studying approach but I have no idea how to fix it. All of the posts by Vince and Greg suggest that scores like this mean a problem with fundamentals. I am currently working through the GoogleSheets fundamentals quizzes, scores below.

Total Score|Verbal Score|Quant Score|

|Powerprep Test 1|318|161|157|
|Powerprep Test 2|326|170|156|
|Powerprep Plus 1|315|164|151|
|Powerprep Plus 2|326|167|159|
|Powerprep Plus 3|319|164|155|

Arithmetic: 43/50 (86%)
Algebra: 32/36 (88%)
Coordinate: 35/38 (92%)

Any suggestions would be much appreciated! I am completely at a loss, and feel like giving up completely. I was planning to take the test on May 30, but I am not sure if I will.

What about your quant strategy?

That’s a good point, I haven’t worked systematically at improving my strategy. (I seem to think if my concepts were strong enough I wouldn’t need strategy).

I do use equal/not equal, test +,-, fraction in QC, and have gotten better at skipping and coming back. Do you have suggestions for improving strategy? I can rewatch the Prepswift videos on strategy and I have read Vince’s article on a strategy mountain. Any other advice or resources for actually utilizing strategy on questions?

Or follow any one of the quant strategy series we have.
