Hi all, I’ve struggled with grasping maths since I was 9 with a relative constantly belittling over bad scores in tests. As a result, i’ve always been scared of maths to a point where my brain freezes if it’s hard to comprehend the question. I’ve finished prepswift, did the tickbox quizzes, practiced a few questions and gave my test recently, only to get a devastating 148, lower than all my mocks even. I feel so dejected. But at least I’ve identified what my problem is- individually I have a grip on all the concepts at a foundational level but when it comes to applying them together to solve a problem, it doesn’t strike to do so in the manner one is expected to. Any tips on tackling this?
Sorry to hear that, that stuff can stick for a while.
How were you doing on the tickbox quizzes before you did your test?
It’s understandable, when you put a lot of work/effort into something and it doesn’t pay off, it can be extremely disappointing.
How have you proven this? Is there data to support this?
Seems like the “Making Deductions” skill is what you really need to practice, provided your foundation is truly good.
I would however assess your foundation first to ensure this claim is true, my recommendation would be to do the following:
Watch the following videos (1.5x speed if you want):

Please print (print to pdf) your scoresheet after you mark it and tell us your scores on each section. Feel free to email me ganesh@gregmat.com if you want to discuss this privately. You should do these untimed, slowly and carefully using paper, the only thing you can’t do is google things or look at your notes.
This would help us better determine what we should do for Quant.
