Please help - how to solve this question

Hi. Can’t understand how to solve this problem at all. Can someone give me a step by step solution please?

Have you tried anything?

Was able to get 150 for left half of the figure… that is:
for top triangle: 0.5 * 10 * 10 = 50
bottom left rectangle = 10 * 10 = 100
so 100+50 = 150 for half of the figure. now how do i get the remaining 20 moving right wards is the question. If i decide to just go on with the same height (10) and extend the base of the rectangle…then when base = 12 and ht is at 10…i can get 120, which when added to 50 gives me 170.
I was able to go this far and now as i pen it down…i think i get it…as there is a slightly upper portion in the second half of the figure…base will have to be lesser than 12 (slightly) hence we select 11<x<12

Does this make sense?

It is indeed slightly less than 12 for the reasons you mentioned, but could you elaborate why 10 < x < 11 wouldn’t work?

That aside, you can use similar triangles/slope of a line to get the area of the “upper triangle”
