Can someone explain how B is the right answer? An unoriginal piece of work can still be coherent? Don’t we need a word close in meaning to “original”?

The word “pastiche” is used to mean a jumbled hodgepodge (definition 2b) . Since the critic’s description was inaccurate, we need a word that provides a direct contrast —something along the lines of “well-structured” or “unified”.
