On the tickbox quiz #5 Question 17, it looks like there is more than one acceptable answer at best. Image attached.
Q1) At best, would the logic below make “-5” just as correct as “25” in this question?
Q2) At worst, would the logic below make “-5” the only correct answer?
I’m recommending either changing the answer or changing the question for future students.
I think it’s true that many, or most, people are taught that the first step for any quadratic is to set the equation = to 0. If anyone follows that rule, then -5 would be “added to both sides of the equation as the first step”. Question 17 asks “what value should be added to both sides of the equation as the first step”.
