PrepSwift video "Justifying Our Answer" @ 7:40

I understand the video’s explanation behind (E). However, I fail to see why (D) is not true as well. In my reading of the passage, the sentence “These points may seem obvious… relic of the past.” (29–31) is saying Martin failed to explain how Douglass’s “antiracist egalitarianism… fits in with his espousal of the liberal Victorian attitudes” (19–21). The author classifies this failure as a “rebuttal to those critics who dismiss Douglass’ ideology as a relic of the past.” Given what is stated in “But this very argument… even wrongheaded” (8–13), are the aforementioned “critics” not the “present-day intellectuals” to which the question refers?

I would greatly appreciate if someone could guide me on where I have erred.

Thanks in advance.

D connects ideas that aren’t connected in the passage

The only thing we know about the present day intellectuals thoughts regarding liberal Victorian political views, is that they thought OP’s espousal of them was naive and outdated

Option D does not say that

Okay… can you help me out by pointing out where I went wrong in my reasoning? Trying to understand the mistake I made. Thank you.
