Can someone please answer this question? - GregMat - GregMat

A bag of candy containing many individual pieces is divided among five children, but not equally. Two of the children receive double the number of pieces as the other three. Which of the following could not be the number of pieces of candy in the bag?

So let the number of candy obtained by people 3, 4 and 5 be x. Then, the number of candy obtained by people 1 and 2 is 2x.

Adding them up, you get 7x. That is, you need a multiple of 7 for this to even be possible. Look at the ones that are not a multiple of 7.
