Question for TC

Although scientists claim that the seemingly -------
language of their reports is more precise than the
figurative language of fiction, the language of
science, like all language, is inherently -------.
(A) ornamental. .subtle
(B) unidimensional. . unintelligible
© symbolic … complex
(D) literal. .allusive
(E) subjective … metaphorical

You can do that using block of 4 and math strategy.
the first contrast is between … language and figurative language.
Figurative means nonliteral so the opposite of that is literal.
Now we have another contrast which is Although.
Although literal language is seemingly precise, so it means that in reality it is not precise. In other words, it is suggestive. You can also reuse the word figurative for the second blank which also means suggestive. Also, could also do the comparison between science and fiction.

Therefore, D is correct.

In this case, you’re just doing a contrast with what they claim. Scientists are going to claim that their “precise” language is “more precise,” but the “although” indicates it’s actually NOT precise and more like the “figurative” language of fiction. So you’re just looking for a synonym of “precise” in blank 1 and a synonym for “figurative” in blank 2
