Quick way to solve this?

I back solved this but is there a more efficient way to solve this?

Hint: the -18 is trying to tell you something.

Sorry, I didn’t get this. Maybe the product of the roots should be -18

We can use -b/2a as well right which I used but I was unsure about the answer so I backsolved it.

Yes

No, - \frac{b}{2a} gives you the x coordinate of the vertex of the parabola, which i’m pretty sure you’re not trying to retrieve anyway.

This is a similar question as above and I can’t see any difference in the questions still ways of solving these two are quite different. In this question, we are substituting the root. In the above question, I was using the product of roots concepts. The main issue is that both methods give different answers to both questions. Which method is correct and are these 2 questions different?

They are related, but not the same thing. Look carefully at what you’re asked to find in each question.

Oh, I found that. In one, they are asking about k, and in the other, they are asking about the other solution. I got so mixed up in the extra information that I assumed they were the same.

Got it, thanks!
