hello! I don’t understand what should I write on the gre? in prepswift quiz solution it is written :
“Solution:
The concepts involved in Q4 and Q5 are the same, so we’ll discuss both in this solution.
-17=5×-4+3
Hence, - 17 has quotient - 4 when divided by 5, and gives remainder 3.
The “incorrect” alternative:
Some may ask: given that - 17 = 5 x
-3 - 2, why is the quotient not -3, and the remainder not 2? The reason
comes down to how we interpret the remainder. On the GRE, negative remainders aren’t defined, and in this case, the remainder would actually be
-2 (notice that we are subtracting, rather than adding).”
what is the answer for gre for this problem “-17/5”? what is the quotient and what is the remainder? from the explanation above it seems as if gre is using some alternative method… I’m really confused now
