RC- short passage

Hi all,
I went through the ‘dedicated reading sessions Season 3’. For short passages he have suggested to look through the passage in two ways- In the video ‘simplifying sentences’, Greg guides us to simplify each sentence and write it down. In the video ‘identifying functions’ he says to identify the function of each sentence and write it down.

But I am not understanding, which strategy to use for short passage RCs while noting down the points. Whether I should note down ‘the simplification of the sentence’ or ‘its function’ ?

Because the word length in small → You can decipher the para sentence by sentence. Now, if you want to go one-step further then you can also write the function of the sentence(This makes answering very easier! ) . Without doing functions you may need to re-read passage and then think “why the author wrote this” → which is the same thing you do ; if you’re writing functions earlier! Although, because para are so short you can get away with simplying line by line most of the times.
\hspace{30mm} Now, with Big Para’s as the word length is huge (3-4 paras or more); you’re best bet is to do functions because line-line simplifying may take up too much time!
