Sitting in a row question

Hi, I don’t quite understand the permutation above. Can somebody explain it? This is from the Quant flashcards group 15. Thanks!

Explain what exactly?

Case 1 –> John sits at the left end, so basically, we need to permute the remaining 3 people in the 3 chairs we have towards the right –> 3! = 3x2x1

Case 2 –> John sits at the right end, so basically, we need to permute the remaining 3 people in the 3 chairs we have towards the left –> 3! = 3x2x1

So, in total –> 2x3! = 2x3x2x1 (as shown in the picture)
