SPOILER - Practice test 3 - medium section 2 verbal

I am not sure what exactly needs to be done in case of disagree/ not agree questions. To better phrase my questions, I will be dividing in them 2 parts :

The question here is of practice test 3, medium section 2. Question states that what would author most likely disagree with. So we need to find answers that the author agrees with and eliminate them.

For first two options, there is direct contrast available in the passage but for option 3, there is no evidence corroborating it. Hence, the author would disagree with it. Here I get a bit confused on what should be done.

Second question, is there any difference between disagree or not agree in these type of questions? Especially related to no evidence options. This doubt arises because if the question states disagree then it is strong and there needs to be evidence for contrast but in case of not agree would include option of no evidence too.

Thank you in advance. I have my GRE exam this weekend, so watching my smallest mistakes more critically.

In this question “disagree” can mean either of the following:

  1. Think the opposite (agrees with the contrast)
  2. Does not agree

Does that help?

Hi Ganesh,
Yes that helps. Thank you.

But what about if instead “disagree” the question state “not agree”. In that case, the question meaning would remain the same?

Apologise for asking very nitty gritty questions but trying to be more critical while answering these types of questions.

Yeah, it “not agree” would work as well
