On this one, I started with the second blank, the “yet” signaled a contrast to me and my mind immediately contrasted the “behind smoke screens of smiles and empty slogans” bit and I came up with the word “forthcoming” as my second blank fill-in. That also fit in well with the first blank, I naturally came up with “deceptive”. However, upon looking at the answer choices, I was completely thrown off and somehow told myself the story “vocal” = “forthcoming” and completely missed the contrast with “hide important differences” and “dissimilar”. Should I be working on my support/contrast logic building here? Or do you think there is another factor at play?
Identifying the contrast with the part “hiding important differences” is the key to solving second blank. You need to work on identifying ideas and building support/contrast with those ideas.
I don’t think so
