Hi! Not sure I understand the rationale for the second blank. Doesn’t it make sense that a low appetite for modern art makes dealers less inclined to sell any kind of modern art?
That would likely be true
We’re going with the opposite here though, a massive appetite not a low one
Can you clarify a bit more what you’re struggling with
I’m not entirely sure how a massive appetite would make seller’s less likely to sell
You’re misinterpreting something in the sentence.
They’re not less likely to sell.
The sentence is referring to the dealers willingness to nurture a young painters career Vs plunder it
Plunder meaning to forcefully take or steal something
Because there’s high demand, dealers are plundering young painters careers, to get as much as they can
Make sense?
Ah that makes sense now that I understand what plundering actually means. I guess I was thinking about it more in this way: Because there is low demand, dealers are destroying young artists’ careers because they are not allocating their attention to a form of art that is not appreciated by the larger public. If there was high demand, they would put more attention to this form of art and nurture it because there isn’t a long term monetary value. However, if plunder means taking away money forcefully, this doesn’t really make sense.
