Tickbox Quiz #4

I am wondering how the solution here is D. The two values being compared are

|x+5| and x+5

I can totally understand how the answer is D here, because these two equations are always equal when x > -5

Intuitively, I think that |x+5| is greater because it is either equal, or greater.

Is this just not a question that ETS would ask? Also for these types of questions, does greater than or equal to not suffice?

These sorts of questions have an implied “always”

Quantity A is greater will translate in laymen’s terms to “A is always greater than B”
Same with “B is always greater than A”
Or “A and B are always equal”

Because we can show a case where A is greater than B (x=-6) and a case where they are equal (x=0), then their case is always true.

When there are two or more cases that we can demonstrate to be true, then we cannot determine “always” so the answer must be D.
