Verbal Question Confusion

Hi! I just want to ask that in the question below, is “for all” setting up contrast? If not then why bcz its on the contrast list given by GREG.

The support/contrast list has the phrase “for all the”. This sentence lacks the “the”.

Instead, it uses the phrase “for all practical purposes” which you can think of as meaning “effectively” or “essentially”.

“The” is just an article. How does it change the whole meaning?

Sorry, I wasn’t clear, it’s not just the “the”, it’s that “for all practical purposes” is a completely different phrase with its own unique meaning.

You’re right that you don’t always need a “the”, as you could say “for all my/her/his/their/etc.” and it would mean the same thing as “for all the”.
