When do you recommend I take the GRE?

I’m wondering if someone could give their thoughts on my specific situation. I work full time and am taking two pretty time consuming classes. I’m thinking at most I’ll be able to dedicate about 2 hours a day, up to 4 on weekends. I plan to apply to grad programs in December and was trying to leave enough time to retake the GRE if needed. However, I think I’m relatively late to studying. Anyone else in this situation? Or have any recommendations?

Edit: I’m transitioning to a heavily quantitative field, so I really need to focus on quant more than the others.

Since working class people rarely have the luxury of time I heavily recommend you take a diagnostic test and study from there rather than solving everything first and then giving the official mocks. Also, you will probably need to start drafting your LOR and SOP by next month —> The earliest you can start the better(Same goes for applying too . The earlier you submit the better are your chances). If you are applying for Fall 2022 the applications open as early as in August . Lastly, keep in mind we are in a middle of the pandemic so you might not be able to schedule your retake (if you require it) almost after the 21 days after your probation end w.r.t your first test date in some cases (centers might not be functioning or you might have to schedule at home ) so plan accordingly .

Thanks! I appreciate the solid advice. I hadn’t thought about the probation period and how other things might affect my ability to retake. In terms of a diagnostic test, where do you recommend I find one?

on the ETS website after you register you can find PP1 and give that as diagnostic .
