2 meanings of the word Stem

The word Stem can mean:

  1. originate from or give rise to
  2. Restrict or confine

Both these meaning are opposite of each other so how to differentiate which meaning is being used in a sentence equivalence question?

As per pairing strategy, if a word pairs with 2 words, we can eliminate all 3 of them, correct?

stem has many other meaning as well https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/stem but you should probably have to look at the context on which it is getting used at to identify which definition if it is being used. Also, Greg's Strategies are not absolute .i.e. they will not work for all the scenarios or questions that you can face at your test , what am I implying here is that always be ready for cases where you can’t point to an answer using one of Greg's Strategies. . Also, ETS has provided some pretty solid instruction on how to attempt each question type that you’ll face in your test ; you can go through them here link

Understood. Thank you : )
