I have my GRE test at the end of March and I’ve been studying using GregMat on and off for 2 months or so alongside a full time job so time has been hard to come by. I went through the entirety of PrepSwift Quant up to strategies (working on those now) and halfway done with PrepSwift Vocab. My results for the GregMat practice test 1 was 164Q 155V when I took it last month. I was looking for advice on how to practice going forward and a good study strategy to follow for the time I have left. Any recommendations on practice sources to use or quizzes to take would be helpful.
Take the untimed version of A full rapid-fire (or untimed) GRE Foundation Test - GregMat and let me know your score.
Not bad - have you taken an official ETS practice test?
No, not yet. I’ve only taken practice test 1 on Gregmat. Do you recommend I do that next? Could you also let me know how to practice and a study strategy after that?
Yes, as we don’t have recent evidence of where you stand right now. Report back the scores and we’ll discuss further steps.
158+164 = 322.
I could definitely feel the verbal section was more difficult for me, especially the RC parts that I have yet to begin learning from PrepSwift and strategies. I am still improving my vocab as well. Please let me know how I can proceed best from here!
I’d like @gregmat to respond to this.
For Verbal, you just want to keep improving that vocabulary and those strategies.
And Quant? Do you have any recommendations on how to go about practicing and a study plan for the 35 or so days I have left?
Go through the one or two month study plan for verbal. If you’ve already done that, go through them again
Got it. @Leaderboard do you have any other recommendations? Any resources to use for practicing questions?
If you’re doing the study plans, you’ll have a lot of questions to do there. Other sources include our practice tests, the problem-solving section (Home - GregMat - GregMat) and the mini exams. Keep in mind: just solving problems is a bad idea.
Hey Leaderboard and @gregmat, I really do appreciate your guys’ advice in this thread. I practiced verbal strategy and got my vocab up more and practiced quant with strategies in mind too. I had my test the other day, my score was 159q 161v for a total of 320 which I am satisfied with at the moment, although the quant score is a tad lower than what I was aiming for. I felt that my test was difficult, especially the second part for quant and verbal, since I went looking for low hanging fruits for time management and barely found any level 3 questions. I fully concede that more practice could have helped me in quant especially; I ran out of time in the end and had to resort to randomly choosing answers for 4 questions that I wasn’t sure of and still wasn’t able to answer one question since my timer ran out.
My diagnostic report will be coming in two weeks, although my subscription to GregMat will end before then. I am thinking of giving this exam another go in a few months once my schedule clears up more, so I wanted to ask what you guys would recommend I do better next time? It is already clear to me that time management is something I need to work on, as well as my quant foundation, but I’d once again appreciate any tips or suggestions you may have!
Hi! Nice score!
What I recommend you do in the next couple of months is stuff to say for sure. During this interim time, are you going to maintain your vocab knowledge and quant foundation knowledge? If so, how?
I have to admit I haven’t thought about ways to retain my foundational knowledge. I’d appreciate any advice to take forward for the next few months, whether that be things I can do to improve, or ways of retaining what I know now.
