Advice on improving score to 320

Hi all,

I have been studying the gre for awhile and I have completed the 2 month study plan. I have taken two PP test so far and my scores are:
PP1 ( dec 31) 151V 158 Q
PP2 (Jan 18) 154V 155Q

Not sure how can position myself for better success to my target score of 320. Any solid advice would be much appreciated! @Leaderboard

Don’t ping people unnecessarily. But to answer your question, take the untimed version of A full rapid-fire (or untimed) GRE Foundation Test - GregMat and let us know how you do.

Noted, thank you for the guidance! I took the test and got 26/30…any further guidance?

26/30 is good. When did you take the two practice tests?

I took PP1 dec 31 2024 and then I took pp2 Jan 18 2025.

Not good then - why do you think your scores regressed?

There was a hiccup while I was taking PP2 where i accidentally close out of the test, so retaking the entire test attributed to the regression. I was not skipping as much as I did when I was taking PP1. Also, I have been neglecting quant since I was spending more time trying to raise my Verbal score…I am not sure how to maintain both quant and verbal in my daily studies. I am planning on using the one month study plan and take another practice end of this week. Not sure if you have a better suggestion?

How good are you on strategies?

I am better on strategies with quant than verbal. For TE and SC, the math strategy is a hit or miss for me, especially when I can’t get a good grasp of the main idea of the clauses, then I am not able to apply the math strategy. RC is by far the worse for me. I usually do that last in the practice test, and use the remaining time to hopefully get some right…I just struggle with getting consistent accuracy with RC questions.

Something doesn’t add up - let me ask @gregmat.

I suggest first checking your foundations in quant and your vocabulary.

The first thing I would do is test your foundations in quant and vocabulary. You can let me know how you do on them for further advice.

For foundations in quant, can you take these quizzes below untimed? Don’t look up anything beforehand to get an honest assessment. You don’t have to take them all at once.

For verbal, can you test your knowledge of 30 random words (groups 1 - 34) here: Home - GregMat - GregMat

He already did take the quant foundation: Advice on improving score to 320 - #3 by slbo7747

Arithmetic: 47/50
Algebra: 33/36
Coordinate Geometry: 34/38
Geometry: 39/44
DA 1:29/30
DA 2: 31/41
DA 3: 10/15

For the verbal I got 30/30. I have been reviewing all group 34 every day at this point for a month now. Yet, I still find more words that I don’t know which causing me to get some of the TC/SE questions wrong. Words like “Consquence…inept…thwart…” that are not specifically part of the vocab mountain. Seems like I am just constantly adding more new words on top of the 34 groups that I review on a daily basis. It does get overwhelming with having to remember so many words…

For quant, I know my weakness is in probabilities, permutation, combinations word problems. The concept have not stuck to me yet, which I am currently reviewing…

Those foundation scores indicate to me that you should be working on strategies and untimed practice.

Is there a recommended approach for untimed GRE practice? I often spend too much time on either verbal or quant, neglecting the other. Should I simulate the real GRE format by taking mini quizzes to progressively build my strategy a day aiming for accuracy?
