Advice on Studying

I’ve completed the “I’m Overwhelmed” plan and taken all the module quizzes. In Geometry/Data, I did skip some of the quizzes, practice problems, and videos for each section, although I completed all module quizzes. Currently, my fundamentals scores are in the 40-60% range across most concepts, based on my performance on a few initial videos and quizzes.

I’m unsure if revisiting skipped quizzes and practice problems in the “I’m Overwhelmed” plan would be more effective or to continue with targeted practice on the concepts I find challenging. I’m also considering whether I should transition to the 2-month strategy-focused plan next.

So far, I’ve concentrated on quantitative sections, with vocabulary on the side. I’m wondering about the best way to incorporate the reading/verbal sections into my routine, as I’d like to improve comprehensively.

I aim to reach a 325+ by my first official GRE attempt next March. My baseline score from August was 285, taken with no preparation, and I plan to take a mock test in November to measure my progress.

Thank you for any advice you can offer on proceeding from here!

At your current stage I’d do the overwhelmed plan again since you have plenty of time. So just work on your Quant foundation for now.

For verbal, why don’t you join/follow the 2024 TCSE and Reading series we’re doing this week?

What would be a good way to approach the plan for a 2nd time? I feel like I need to apply the concepts more and more in order for them to sink in.

Where do I find this series for verbal or is part of the 2month plan?

You’d do the following for each module:

  1. For each part:
    1. Do the “Progress Quiz” on the RHS
    2. If you score <85: Do the whole part again completely
    3. If you score >= 85%:
      1. Review the topics again on the LHS for the questions you got wrong
      2. Attempt those specific questions that you got wrong again
  2. Take the end of module tickbox quiz
    1. If you get < 75%: Repeat the whole module
    2. If you get >= 75%: Move to the next module

You probably need to be doing the Quant Mountain or Quant Flashcards more, doing problem solving isn’t the way to memorise.

For recordings, you can check under “Ongoing Series” here:

You can also join the live classes here:

Okay, Tyvm. How many hours do you suggest studying? I usually do 2-4, but it’s becoming increasingly difficult to maintain 2 hours on weekdays and even study on weekends.

Can I follow the 2024 TCSE and Reading series, and will it be the same as if I was doing the two month plan(so I don’t double dip the same videos etc?)

Usually around 3 hours a day for those who study outside of work/other stuff, and 6 hours a day for those who are studying for the GRE full time.

Yeah you can follow this week’s new series instead.

ok thanks so much for the advice so far!

@ganesh hey another question,

for studying 2-4hours/day, aiming for 3, how much of that should be quant/verbal? I was thinking of doing more quant then verbal for now, so if I do 3hrs, 1hr would be TC/SE etc or I might have 1-2days out of the week just for verbal.

Sounds okay, but we recommend using the study plan to not have to think about stuff like this

okty!

Thanks for asking, this thread was helpful. I find the videos time-consuming/cumbersome which makes it difficult to get through as well as there are so many different links on the two-month plan and overwhelming to comprehend/follow. If the videos were < 50 min long then it would be more manageable.

One strategy that I am trying out is writing a separate to do list and mark the time it takes to complete each video/homework and plan out my week accordingly, as some days require more than 4 hours.

If I have until the end of December to study, and I’m scoring around 65-70% on Quant Prepswift quizzes, would it be better for me to follow the Overwhelmed or the 1-Month Study plan?
