Advice on timing strategy for test day

I believe this is a good estimate for the GRE latest format breakdown. I took it a couple weeks ago and score a 323(160V + 163Q). I am retaking it again in 10 days, and I need to get my score up by at least 3-4 points for my dream school. I feel time management is where I am lacking and would really appreciate some specific advice on how much time to spend on each of these sections and question types

Section 1 (12 Q):

  • TC: ~3 questions (1 single, 1 double, 1 triple)

  • Short RC: 2–5 RC questions (mixed short/medium passages)

  • SE: ~4 questions

    Section 2 (15 Q):

  • TC: ~3 questions (1 single, 1 double, 1–2 triple)

  • RC: ~8 questions (short + medium passages, possibly a long one)

  • SE: ~3–4 questions

  • Quant Section 1 (12 Q): ~4 QC, ~3 DI, ~4 MCQ, ~1 multi-answer, ~1 numeric entry

  • Quant Section 2 (15 Q): ~5 QC plus mix of MCQ, numeric entry, and multi-answer making up the rest

Roughly something like this:

  • SE 1 min per question
  • TC 1 min per blank
  • Reading: 1 min per para, 1 min per question

But really it doesn’t work like that. You need to be flexible and give less time to easier questions and more time to harder questions. Time management is more about how to score the highest possible from a list of questions in a given time than how long to spend per question.

I recommend doing the easiest questions first (usually SE), then medium (1 and 2 blank tcs), then finally CR/3 Blankers.
