Algebra : functions

we have f(x) = x+ lxl
and the question is to find the shape of the graph, the x-intercept and the y-intercept .
I watched greg explanation but still can’t understand .

hi, so here the function can be broken down into two halves as you can see in the explanation. One is the part where x>=0 and the other is x<0.

for x>=0: the function is a line whose formula would be y=2x.(because for x being positive |x| will be positive and both add up to be 2x).

for x<0: the function is a line whose formula would be y=0 which is left half of the x-axis. (because for negative x, |x| will be positive and both cancel out), and for any value of x, y will be 0.
