Arithmetic Foundation Quiz #1- Question 24

Hey all, I’m struggling with this problem. Can someone help me out?

A = 12

B = 150% of A ------------------> I got that this was 18 instinctively by adding 1/2 of 12 to itself

C= 250% larger than B--------> I got stuck here. I tried to cross multiply by setting up 12/100 = x/250 but that gives me 45, and the answer is supposed to be 63. (Greg says to multiply 18 x 3.5, but I don’t understand why it’s 3.5. Can someone break it down for me like I’m 5? It’s hurting my brain).

D = 200% greater than C.What is D? ----> If I cheat at start with the correct answer for C: 63, my instinct is to multiply by 2 to get 126. Greg says to multiply by 3, to get 189. Why 3 and not 2?! I know I’m missing something here.

Thank you in advance!!

Right

Put it this way: what is 250% larger of 18?

Think of it like this: 20% more of x is just saying 120% of x. Does that help?

When its greater than , it implies (1 + 250/100) * 18 = 63

Similarly for D => (1+ 200/100) 63 = 189

I hope this helps.
